Catalyst Started in America

Catalyst started in America, with the first event happening over a decade ago, and organised by our US office. We have since imported the concept to the UK and have been hosting Catalyst in the UK for eight years.

Did you know we have a similar event in China? Our e-commerce event Insite follows the same format as Catalyst.

We are very honoured to host these industry events in three continents. There are many lessons to be learned, with some common themes or unique trends depending on the regions. Catalyst Europe is the symbol of our expertise in international trends. We spend the year looking at our different regions and see what applies to the UK. In 2016, we got inspiration from China on the evolution of the mobile e-commerce landscape.

The Reason Behind Catalyst

We know retailers and brands are faced with a challenging and ever changing e-commerce industry, and it’s a challenge for them to prioritise which changes are important. Executives are expected to stay ahead of emerging trends, but may have limited time or opportunities to sit back and take a moment to get inspired.

That’s why we started hosting our Catalyst events. We have been hosting our Catalyst Europe event in London for the past 8 years but wanted something different for our attendees this year. We chose the vibrant city of Manchester for Catalyst Europe 2017, with the jam-packed day taking place at The Principal Hotel on Oxford Street.

After so many successful Catalyst events, including 2016’s event at the Savoy hotel in London, we wanted to celebrate the continuous evolution of e-commerce in a new landscape this year, and give our attendees an even bigger opportunity to feel enlightened. Manchester is a cultural gem with too many references to count (from the new BBC headquarters to Oasis), and we can’t wait to discover this buzzing city!
