Today it was announced that Amazon have increased their market share in the UK from 28.8 per cent in 2018 to 30.1 per cent this year, accounting for $30bn in sales.
As the world’s third biggest e-commerce market (behind the US and China), pureplay marketplaces continue to dominate the landscape with eBay following Amazon with a 9.8 per cent share.
It’s been a busy week for Amazon news as it was also announced that they have taken a stake in food delivery service Deliveroo. It’s been seen as a controversial move as Watchdog express concerns over the dominance this gives them and is another interesting example of Amazon increasing their service offering. Currently 90% of UK online shoppers use Amazon with over 40% accessing its Prime subscription service and one fifth of Amazon shoppers use the service once a week.
